Stocking Hair Extensions for the Holiday Season: What Salons Run Out of First
The holiday season does not necessarily bring salons new hair extension clients. More often, it squeezes the clients you already have into six busy weeks. Everyone wants to be finished before the party, before the photos, before the flight. Your calendar fills, your chair time shrinks, and the drawer you have not counted since September starts to look thin.
What runs out first?
Not the color you sell most. That one you already keep deep, because you watch it. What goes first is the length or the shade you hold one or two packs of, the one that only comes up once in a while, until three clients ask for it in the same week.
In March you reorder and wait. In December the client does not wait. She has a date on the calendar and she will find another chair. That is the real cost of a thin drawer in the holiday season. It is not the pack you did not sell, it is the appointment you did not keep.
Which hair extension methods get booked most?
In December chair time runs out before hair does, so the faster methods are the ones that fit. Regular Tape-In gets booked because it goes in quickly and comes out quickly, and Invisible Tape-In follows closely for clients who want a more discreet finish, especially around finer or more visible areas.
Keratin I-Tip and Keratin F-Tip behave differently. They take longer in the chair, so clients book them earlier in the season. That means you need them on the shelf in November, not in December. If you wait for your calendar to tell you, the calendar is telling you late.
The same logic applies to Regular Weft and Slim Weft (Genius Weft) for stylists working beaded rows and sew-ins. Longer service, earlier booking, earlier stock.
Clip-In is the one most salons forget, because it is not an appointment at all. It is retail. The client who wants length for one night and nothing after is buying, not booking, and she buys in the last two weeks, usually while she is already in your chair for something else.
Which lengths and shades disappear fastest?
Long lengths and the shades you cannot substitute are usually the first to go thin. But what empties first in your salon depends on your own client history, your service mix and what your market asks for.
Do not take that as a shopping list. Take it as a reason to open your own books. Pull your last sixty days of installs and count what you actually used, by method, by length, by shade. Your own history will beat any general list.
What about the parts nobody counts?
A December appointment does not only fail when the hair runs out. It fails when the tape and the tools run out. Tape tabs, pliers, rings, thread and connectors. Nobody inventories those, because they cost little and they always seem to be there, right up until a Saturday in December when they are not.
Count your professional tools the same week you count your hair. The same goes for aftercare. A client who leaves in December with new extensions and nothing to wash them with is a client whose hair looks wrong in January, and she will not blame the shampoo.
How much should you actually hold?
Enough to cover the appointments already on your calendar, plus the ones that will appear. The mistake is going wide instead of deep. Buying one pack across a long list of shades feels like being prepared and is not, because one pack is the amount that runs out.
Deepen what you already install. The methods and shades you touch every week are where the season will hit you, and they are the ones you can hold without guessing.
When is the last safe moment to order?
Earlier than feels necessary. What we hold in our Florida inventory ships across the United States, and orders over $300 ship free. But carriers slow down in December, and the week you most need a package to arrive on time is the week everyone else needs the same thing.
Treat the middle of November as your last comfortable order for December work, and anything after that as a risk you are choosing on purpose.
What if you need something custom?
Custom work is measured in weeks, not days. Bulk human hair can be customized into wefts, keratin tips and clip-ins. That work has to be scheduled like any other production service. If a custom piece is part of your holiday plan, ask our team for current lead times before you promise a completion date to a client.
If you are purchasing by volume for the season, ask about our Wholesale Program. Approved professionals planning a larger order may also qualify for one of our Partner Plans, which divides the balance into scheduled payments. Both should be arranged before the holiday rush, not during it.
How do you avoid buying the wrong color in a hurry?
Color is the part that gets returned, and haste is what makes it worse. A phone camera shifts every shade it photographs, and salon lighting shifts it again, so the color you approve on a screen in November is not always the color you unwrap in December.
That is why we keep a showroom in North Miami Beach. You can hold the hair next to your client's, under real light, using the Di Milesi Color System, before placing a larger seasonal order. If you cannot come in, send photos on WhatsApp and our team will help you narrow it down, with the honest caveat that remote matching cannot be guaranteed.
If you have not bought from us before, salon owners and licensed stylists register on our professional page to buy at professional pricing. Do that now rather than in the middle of the rush, because approval typically takes one to two business days and December is not the month to be waiting on paperwork.
To plan your holiday stock in person, message us on WhatsApp at (786) 965-3647 and tell us the methods, lengths and shades you install most.
