Wholesale Hair Extensions in South Florida: How Salon Pricing Works
Two packs of extensions sit next to each other. One costs half what the other costs. Most stylists read that as one being cheaper, and it usually is not. The pack weights are different, the lengths are different, and the number that actually matters is what you pay per gram of hair that ends up in your client's head. This is how professional pricing works when you buy extensions in South Florida, what moves the price, and what to check before you decide one supplier is cheaper than another.
What professional pricing actually is
A professional supplier keeps two prices for the same product: the one anyone can see, and the one a licensed stylist pays once the account is approved. The second one is not a coupon and it is not a sale. It is the price your business buys at, every order, for as long as the account is active.
The license check is the whole point of it. If a supplier hands the professional price to anyone who fills in a form, your client can buy the same hair you buy, at the same price, and your install is competing with a website. A supplier that verifies licenses is protecting your margin, not making your life harder.
Larger accounts usually sit on a second tier below that, priced for volume. Ask where that line is before you assume you are not near it. Salons that install weekly are often closer than they think.
Why the price on the pack tells you almost nothing
Pack weights vary between suppliers, and they vary between methods. Two packs at different prices are almost never the same amount of hair, and that is where most price comparisons fall apart.
Tape-in and weft are sold by weight. A Regular Tape-In or Invisible Tape-In pack is 50 grams in 20 pieces. A Regular Weft or Slim Weft bundle is 50 grams. A Long Tape-In is a single 100 gram piece that you sandwich and cut to whatever the head needs.
Keratin is sold by count. A Keratin I-Tip or Keratin F-Tip pack is 25 tips, at any length. In our packs that comes to 20 grams at 16 inches, 22.5 grams at 20 inches and 25 grams at 24 inches: the count stays the same and the tips get longer, so the weight climbs with the length.
So a keratin pack priced at less than half a tape-in pack is not cheaper hair. It holds less than half the weight. Put both on grams and they land far closer together than the shelf suggests.
The practical rule: ask every supplier how many grams are in the pack, divide the price by that number, and compare what comes out. And if a supplier cannot tell you the grams, that is an answer too.
What moves the price of a pack
Length. The biggest single factor. Going from 16 inches to 24 inches is not a small step up in cost, because long hair of usable quality is simply harder to source. Price your 24-inch clients accordingly.
Shade.Darker shades cost less than light ones. A blonde has to be lifted and processed to get there, which takes more work and loses more hair along the way. That difference is real, and any supplier whose blondes cost the same as their blacks is worth a question.
Construction. How the hair is put together changes what it costs to make. An Invisible Tape-In is built thinner and flatter than a standard tape, and a Slim Weft (Genius Weft) is built to sit closer to the scalp than a Regular Weft. You are paying for the build, not only for the hair.
Texture and line.Wavy runs in smaller production than straight, and a premium line like South Brazilian Hair is made in limited quantity by design. Less of it exists, so it prices differently.
The costs that never show up on the product page
Per-gram gets you most of the way. These are the rest.
Shipping. A supplier with a free-shipping threshold rewards you for consolidating orders. If you are ordering twice a week in small amounts, you are paying shipping twice a week. Plan the month instead.
Sales tax. An order shipped within the supplier's own state is taxed; an order shipped out of state normally is not. When you compare a Florida supplier against one in another state, compare after tax, not before.
Color that comes back. A pack you cannot use is not a discount, whatever you paid for it. Color is the most common reason professional orders get returned, and a photograph is the worst possible way to settle it. Matching in person, against real hair under real light, removes the guess.
Hair that does not match itself. This is the expensive one and it shows up months later. If your supplier buys from whichever factory had stock that quarter, the shade you ordered in March can come back different in September, and your returning client notices before you do. Consistency between orders is worth more than a few dollars a gram.
How to compare two suppliers in five minutes
1. Pick one method and one length, and get the price and the grams from both.
2. Divide price by grams. Write both numbers down.
3. Add shipping as you actually order, not as the best case.
4. Add sales tax where it applies.
5. Ask each one how they keep color consistent between production runs, and listen to how specific the answer is.
6. Ask whether you can see and touch the hair before you order.
