TYPES OF HAIR EXTENSION

TYPES OF HAIR EXTENSION

Human hair is made of hair strands or filaments composed basically of proteins (mainly keratin) that grow in cavities called follicles - living cells found in the dermis, on the scalp. Each hair shaft consists of three layers: the medulla, the cortex, and the cuticle.

The cuticle is essential to the appearance of your hair and to determine its quality.

Cuticles that are intact and monodirectional create a smooth, shiny appearance and indicate strong hair that will last through repeated washing and gentle styling.

There are many techniques to increase the length or volume of the hair, and to choose one of them; you must consider some facts:

  • The result you want.
  • The time you intend to use the hair extension.
  • The cost of each product.

Human hair is the product that provides the best results and promises a more natural look.

So that you can choose the extension that best meets your desires and needs, we are going to show you the different types of hair extensions for those who want to have volume, long hair, or change their look:

There are several classifications:

  • Type:
    • Synthetic - more complex to model as they can be damaged depending on the process (hot tools and bleach);
  • Natural:
    • Virgins - present better results, have very natural aspects, are easy to model, also are more expensive;
    • Chemically processed - The hair has been chemically treated during production to make it appear a certain way.
  • Non-Remy: It's human hair but does not have its roots and tips aligned (so the cuticle runs in both directions); the hair can easily tangle.
  • Duration:
    • Temporary - use only one day;
    • Semi-permanent - lasts 6 to 12 weeks and can extend up to 2 years depending on the usage.
  • Ways to apply for extensions
    • Clip-in Extensions - they are clip-on extensions; the wires are attached to a clip, it is easy to apply, and the person can put them on, remove them or replace them (it is temporary) by pressing a clip to fit the hair. Thus, this extension does not damage the hair, as it does not need chemicals or heat;
    • Tape-in Extensions - it is applied to the hair using adhesive tape or glue; It is not a very time-consuming process, and to be removed easily, the hairdresser must use a proper remover. It can be harmful if they are not fitted or removed by licensed stylists.
    • Keratin Tips - it is also a form of collage. The F-tip can be applied using a heating tool that melts the tips onto the natural hair, or instead, without heat or glue, the I-Tip is attached with a micro link bead.
    • Wefts - are strands of hair sewn into a mesh (wefts) sewn into your hair. Braids are made from your natural hair, and then weave the extensions into the braids with thread. There is another sewing technique as well: micro-link extensions (micro link) are cylinders added to the hair that holds the extension.
    • Hair in Bulk this extension is not a technique, but a product, because you buy loose hair (locks) without finishing and can use it in any method. It has no added service like other products, for example, the sewn or glued extension.

There are various hair extension techniques and many ways to apply them. There are also several products, as demonstrated in this article.

The quality of the extension depends on the choice between synthetic, non-remy or natural hair, in which case the price is related to the quality, as synthetic and non-remy are more affordable; however, the result is not so satisfactory. On the other hand, human hair lasts longer and has a more natural appearance. We highly recommend looking for human hair with the cuticle intact and aligned.

Therefore, having thicker or longer hair, whether for aesthetic reasons or self-esteem, wanting to change the look or disguise hair flaws, has a solution in hair extension techniques. Learn more and take advantage of its benefits.
